 Post subject: Acrylic Trophies for VEX Robotics team

The VEX Robotics Competition award a very specific type of tropy at their events. For our end of season awards banquets, I made trophies in acrylic that match the look of the steel and aluminum trophies given during the season. The regular trophies are made from sheet metal that looks like the prototyping metal they build the robots from. There is a pattern of square and diamond shaped holes on 1/2 inch grid that allows for easy mounting of motors and supports and such. To replicate that look in acrylic, one of the guys here drew it in autocad. I wanted to make changes to it, but since I'm a software guy, I wrote the design as a postscript program instead. Details if anybody cares. Pictures if you're interested.

Here's a group of the trophies. I still hadn't done some cutouts at this point, but you can see how they look. Also, you can just see a smaller official metal trophy peeking through the acrylic ones.

Here's a closer view of a single trophy with the cutouts done. EC3 is short for the "Early College and Career Center", part of our local county high school system. That's where the Robotics program is based.

The code to draw the parts is in an encapsulated postscript (.eps) file. I load it into either chrome or firefox (both can show .eps files) and print it to the FSLaser printer driver.
