I'm not sure how all this works with your current free hosted service..etc..

but is there any HTTPS (SSL cetificate) stuff coming for the site soon?

All current browsers will throw warnings and even fill in the input fields of sites that have 'forms' (ie: login, posts..etc) if they are non-secured (ie: http) pages.. and not loaded vis HTTPS.

Its a security feature that should be implemented as soon as it can to keep the forum safe from exploits.

Figured I'd ask to see where this is at? If its coming..etc?

It can be implemented for as cheap as (around) $9.00 a year or so..

^ bump....

Was this read? In the works? I keep getting the nags when logging in (or any input field/form)...

For the security of the site itself... this should be implemented.

But if its not, please let 'us' know..

Hey XL, sorry for no response. I looked into it briefly, and unfortunately it doesn't look like the freeforums.org service we use offers it as a standard feature. It may be doable but I'm not a web guy at all, so I'm not sure how to even begin setting it up. I am an admin on the forum but Mike (aka "Admin") has done all of the web hosting and setup stuff. He may know more than I do, but for right now I'm not sure how I'd need to go about setting it up. I agree it would be a good thing to have.

Ahh.. nice! (glad you guys saw it)..

Yeah.. it most definitely will NOT be a FREE feature.. LOL..

I'm a web dev by trade... so things like this are usually on my radar!

But it should really only cost (roughly) $9.00 a year or so.. (for this one single domain)..

I'm not sure of the 'freeforums' restrictions.. but I'm sure this NOT anything new.. SSL/HTTPS has been around forever.. but now security is FINALLY getting some attention. (and it will only get stricter).. with the new browsers now supporting and focusing on security on the web.. this will become more than just an annoyance on forums/login pages.. (to possibly not even allowing page usage)

And I like this forum! LOL.. I'd hate to see it exploited or login stole or any such breach. Not to mention the security of our members here. ;)

My best suggestion at this point.. would be to just contact the people who run the freeforums stuff.. see if they have a process or tutorial on how to implement for their sites/service. (they may even just do it for you?)

Yea, not so much on a free board... But it's nice to hear that your happy with the forum...

If I could figure out a way to generate a wee bit of income from the forum (just enough to pay a monthly fee), I would look into a more professional service.. Until then ???

They said they do not offer SSL/HTTPS for the 'freeboards'?

I had offered to let you use some space on my domain.. (its just a forum install)..

you keep your domain.. just use some 'free' space that I already own/pay for.

I dont think things are that big here..
